Gojo Satoru’s Infinity and Unlimited Void – Why His Power Reshaped Jujutsu Kaisen

Every battle manga has a strongest character, but few are as overwhelming as Satoru Gojo. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo is not simply at the top of the power scale; he is the reason the scale looks the way it does. His Infinity means almost nothing can touch him, and his Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void, ends fights the moment it closes around an enemy. Yet the most interesting thing about Gojo is not what his power does to his opponents, but what it does to the story itself. Let’s break down how his abilities work, and why Gege Akutami had to build the entire plot around them.

The Limitless and the Six Eyes

Gojo’s cursed technique, the Limitless, is inherited through the Gojo clan. Any member of the clan can be born with it, but only someone who also has the Six Eyes can truly master it, and Gojo is the first sorcerer in four hundred years to be born with both.

Infinity – The Power to Stop

Infinity is the neutral state of the Limitless. The story explains it with mathematics: the finite space between Gojo and an attack is divided an infinite number of times, so anything approaching him keeps slowing down and never actually arrives. To everyone else, it looks as if their punches, blades and curses simply freeze in the air a few centimetres from his body.

Why the Six Eyes Matter

The Six Eyes let Gojo see cursed energy in extreme detail and control his own with almost zero waste. That precision is what makes the Limitless usable at all. It also means his cursed energy practically never runs dry, so he can keep Infinity running at all times while continuously repairing his overworked brain with reverse cursed technique. The trade-off is sensory overload, which is why he usually covers his eyes with a blindfold or dark glasses.

Blue, Red and Hollow Purple

Infinity’s attacking forms grew out of a near-death experience. As a student, Gojo was stabbed and left for dead by Toji Fushiguro, the Sorcerer Killer. On the brink, he grasped reverse cursed technique, healed himself, and gained access to Red, the reversed, repelling form of the Limitless that complements the attracting Blue. Combining the two, he created Hollow Purple, an imaginary mass that erases whatever it passes through, and used it to defeat Toji (Chapter 75). This is the moment he declares, “Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honored one.” From that day on, he was no longer one of the strongest; he was the strongest.

Unlimited Void – A Domain That Ends the Fight

Unlimited Void pulls the target into the inside of the Limitless itself, an endless space that looks like the depths of the universe. There, an infinite flood of information pours into their mind. They can see and feel everything while being unable to process anything, so every act of living is forced to repeat endlessly and they are left completely helpless.

  • The first demonstration: Gojo uses it against the special grade curse Jogo in Chapter 15 (Episode 7 of the anime), overpowering Jogo’s own domain with ease while Yuji watches.
  • A guaranteed win: Kento Nanami later says that once Unlimited Void lands, victory is essentially certain (Chapter 30).
  • The 0.2-second domain: In Shibuya, surrounded by curses and trapped civilians, Gojo opens his domain for only 0.2 seconds (Chapter 89). That fraction of a second is equal to about half a year of information, enough to leave every curse frozen on its feet while he wipes out about a thousand transfigured humans.
  • The hand sign: The gesture Gojo makes to cast it is associated with Indra, the warrior king of the gods in Buddhist tradition, a neat visual hint at his status as the strongest fighter in his world.

How One Man Changed the Jujutsu World

Gojo’s power does not only matter in battle. Within the story, his mere existence shifted the balance of the jujutsu world. In Chapter 96, the curse user Jiro Awasaka recalls that before Gojo was born, people like him could curse and kill freely. A bounty was placed on the child with the Six Eyes, nobody could ever collect it, and from then on curse users lost their freedom simply because he was alive.

The same pressure works on his own side. The jujutsu higher-ups fear him, which is the only reason Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu escaped their execution orders. Gojo openly says he could wipe out the entire leadership if he wanted to, but chooses to raise strong students instead, because a world reformed by one man’s force would not truly change.

The Gojo Problem – Why the Story Had to Remove Him

Kenjaku’s Two Conditions

As early as Chapter 10, the villain wearing Suguru Geto’s body explains what the curses need to win: immobilize Gojo, and bring Sukuna over to their side. Everything that follows, including the entire Shibuya Incident, is designed around the first condition. Kenjaku cannot beat Gojo in a fight, so he builds a trap out of hostages, prepared special grade curses, the Prison Realm and the face of Gojo’s dead best friend. It works, and Gojo is sealed in Chapter 91.

A Narrative Necessity

Many fans argue that the story needed this as much as Kenjaku did. As long as Gojo is free, readers know that any crisis can be solved by him showing up, and no villain feels truly threatening. With Gojo locked away, the Culling Game arc could put Yuji, Megumi, Maki and the others in real danger. He only returns in Chapter 221, well over a hundred chapters later.

The Battle of the Strongest

When Gojo finally faces Sukuna in Shinjuku (Chapters 223 to 236), the fight becomes a showcase of everything Infinity and Unlimited Void can do: domains clashing, domains rebuilt again and again, and Gojo shrinking his barrier to survive Sukuna’s slashes. In the end, Sukuna produces a slash that cuts through space itself, something Infinity cannot stop, and Gojo dies in Chapter 236.

The reaction was explosive, but a popular reading is that the outcome was almost unavoidable. If Gojo had won, Yuji, the protagonist, would have had nothing left to resolve. A draw built around another seal would have repeated the Shibuya trick. Only a loss let the story move on to the characters it was really about.

The Loneliness of Being the Strongest

Behind all of this sits Gojo’s personal tragedy. Despite his power, he could not save Riko Amanai, and he could not stop Geto from leaving. He realised that being strong alone was not enough. That is why he became a teacher: Infinity could protect him from everything except being alone at the top.

Conclusion

Infinity and Unlimited Void made Gojo nearly untouchable, and that is exactly why they reshaped Jujutsu Kaisen. Within the world, his birth shifted the balance between sorcerers and curse users. Outside it, his power forced Akutami to seal him away for most of the second half of the story and, eventually, to remove him so the next generation could stand on its own.

Was sealing and then killing Gojo the only honest way to handle a character this strong, or could Jujutsu Kaisen have found a way to keep the strongest sorcerer in the fight until the very end?
